God of War Creator David Jaffe Claims God of War: Ragnarok is 40 Hours Long - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 03 November 2021 / 6,582 Views

God of War creator and Twisted Metal co-creator David Jaffe in a recently uploaded video on YouTube claims he has heard the next entry in the God of War series, God of War: Ragnarok, will be around 40 hours in length. He isn't sure if that is the average play time to complete or the time it takes to complete everything in the game.

“I'm hearing from people in the know that that game is 40 hours," Jaffe said. "They're aiming for 40 hours of gameplay. I don't know if that’s a 100% Platinum Trophy completion, or if that's average play time."

Jaffe added, "Is it guaranteed? No. Things get cut, things get added. But what I can you right now 40 hours of gameplay is what they're shooting for for the new God of War."

If the average time to beat the game is around 40 hours that would be up to two times longer than God of War (2018), which takes around 20 to 25 hours to complete.

Jaffe has also stated recently he found out about a new PlayStation game that is in development and he said when people find out about the game they will "lose their fucking minds."

"Just found out about a new PlayStation game they are making-no idea when it get unveiled (maybe next week, maybe not)," said Jaffe at the time. "But just know when it does, people are [going to] lose their fucking minds! Bad ass!!!"

It is rumored the next God of War game, God of War: Ragnarok, will make an appearance at the PlayStation Showcase 2021, which is set to take place on Thursday, September 9 at 1:00 pm PT / 4:00 pm ET / 9:00 pm BST. You can watch live on YouTube and Twitch

God of War: Ragnarok is in development for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

40hrs long? no brainer on a purchase here.

Good news. A lot of modern, store-based games these days are far too short. It's nice to see a major title like this bucking that trend.

Well 40hrs would surely be for a 100% completion. I dont see a campaign going for that long. Looking forward to it.

i like the idea of a 40h GoW game, but i hope this is for "first time". I hope the game can deliver good "replay" value and you can make a "fast run" in 10h or less. (similar to dark souls). i think it's unlikely, but still... i will be pleased with such big GoW game that likely to have tons of sidequests.

gow 2018 was pretty long but had pacing issues,
having more big meaningful bossfights like more dragons would be wawesome haha!

"Dude who didn't work on the game heard from a friend of a friend that a game is xx hours long"

"In other News, my uncle who works at Nintendo says that the next Zelda game takes place in Westeros"

Well, unlike that meme this guy is the creator of the series who has worked with several of the people who are now in charge of the franchise. It's pretty reasonable to believe he still has legit contacts in the company could get authentic info like this.

First off, the only thing that would make me “lose my fucking mind” would be MediEvil 3.
Second, I hope those 40 hours are a 100% estimate, it’s much too long for a hack-n-slash. There’s no point in me buying the game if the story’s that long. I got burned out and of the previous GoW and quit long before the end and apparently that was only half as long.

I'm hoping that's not for a basic play through of the story. The sweet spot for a game like this would 15-20 hours in my opinion. 40-50 hours for 100% completion would good.

Not sure why I'm getting down voted i said it was just my opinion

Me neither. While I'd be down for 40 hours of God of War...most games I can only tolerate 15-25 hours. Unless it's a game like Skyrim or The Witcher with tonnes of random 'just dick around for 50 hours' energy.

So am I, Mr Puggsly and dane007. Some people sadly can’t accept another’s opinion if it’s not praise.

This down voting feature is just stupid in general. Opinions get hidden for being outside the norm. I get it, if someone is trolling or acting like a douche, but for just having an opinion?

But regarding your point, I 100 % agree with you. I don't understand why some people have so much time for gaming. Personally it just means I am less likely to try that game, because my life is a little more busy, I suppose. And if I have the chance to play two 20 hour games or one 40 hour game, I would usually pick the former, unless the latter has a substantial better reputation.
It is also a strange phenomena in the gaming community that the length is so important. You don't see film-buffs acting similar: "I am not gonna pay full price to watch that movie, if it's less than 2 hours long! Oh, it's 7 hours long? Even better!"

Surely though if the game can hold its tempo and not get stale - the length should be as long as possible while not sacrificing on quality.

Yeah, it's like, "I can't watch a TV series because it has too many episodes. I'll get bored." Well, maybe some people are like that. The tribe of shorter engagements.

Well I guess people are different. I struggle with TV series, personally. If you have, 70 hour TV series, as good as it possibly is, I cannot justify for myself investing 70 hours in it, if I could spent that time watching 35-40 quality movies instead. That's 35-40 different experiences rather than just 1. That TV series would have to be so insanely much better than what I can find in that stack of movies, for me to justify investing my time in that instead.
