Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez injured himself so badly Saturday night when he hit a foul ball off his left leg in the fifth inning against the San Diego Padres that he had to come out of the game.

Alvarez collapsed and stayed on the ground for several minutes.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said X-rays were negative for Alvarez, who will not need a stint on the injured list. His playing status is considered day-to-day.

Chas McCormick replaced him and struck out, which was credited against Alvarez.

The Padres beat the Astros, 10-2.
