When it comes to Madden 22 offense, there are many controls to master, in addition to plays and strategies. When facing opponents, it’s good to know how to be able to switch things up quickly. Sometimes in games, you’ll want to be able to adjust your strategy or play. In this guide, learn how to audible in Madden 22 and how to call for and use hot zones with your offense.
How to Audible on Madden 22 offense or defense
In football, an audible happens when a team chooses to change up their offensive or defensive formation after they were already set for a specific play. You can use this with your Madden 22 offense or defense to keep opponents guessing, or to adjust to your opponents’ play.
The way how to audible in Madden 22 is quite simple. After you choose a play and your team’s on the field, press the Square button on the PlayStation controller or X on the Xbox controller. This brings up an on-screen Audibles menu as shown below.
You can then choose a new play by pressing the corresponding button. For example, press Square on PS controller for Y Stick, Triangle for HB Inside Zone, and so forth.
As seen above there are also options to reset the play back to what you originally had, or flip the play. Flip Play will reverse your formation for the play you’ve called.
Your receivers will move to opposite sides and everyone’s routes will be run in the opposite direction of the original play. For a halfback, they will run the ball to the opposite side, depending on the play you called.

How to use Hot Routes with your offense
Another option you can use to change up your play is to call up the Hot Routes menu. This will allow you to adjust the routes your receivers are running for the play you’ve called. So if you had a receiver on a slant route, you could switch them to a straight route towards the end zone.
To call up the Hot Routes menu for your Madden 22 offense, press the Triangle button on the PlayStation controller, or the Y button on the Xbox controller. You’ll get an on-screen menu to select one of your receivers on the field which may include your halfback, depending on the play.
Press the button that corresponds to the receiver you want to switch the route for. You’ll get a new menu with different options for routes you can change for that receiver. You can use the Left or Right Stick on the controller, or the other controller options to change the route as shown below.
The options will differ by play, and also some players may have additional Hot Routes as part of their abilities.
Always make sure to have these strategies ready for your opponents. Sometimes you’ll need to be quick if you want to change your play. On offense, you’ve got the running play clock, while on defense your opponent could snap the ball quickly before you can audible.
