In my previous article on The Real Champs, I spoke about the rumours on Erling Haaland having a pre-agreement with Real Madrid. While those rumours have been dubbed as false, there is serious interest between both parties for a possible transfer in 2022.

Real Madrid can be deemed favourites to sign Haaland mainly due to Florentino Perez’s close relationship with Borussia Dortmund‘s board. You can read one of my articles on three concrete reasons why Haaland would sign for Madrid next year.

The Merengues dream of a “galactico” summer transfer window with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland being the centre of attention while Manchester United‘s Paul Pogba is also on the list. While Madrid are strong contenders to sign Haaland next year, their stumbling block could be Paris Saint-Germain.

As everyone is aware by now, Kylian Mbappe seems to be fully committed to Real Madrid. The 22-year-old could not complete a switch this summer after PSG rejected multiple bids from Los Blancos and now the only option is a pre-agreement in January.

Florentino Perez will look to seal personal terms with Mbappe come January next year. PSG would have no power or authority in this situation to prevent Kylian Mbappe from leaving as his contract expires next year at the end of the season.

What does that mean for Real Madrid and their chances of signing Haaland next year?

If Mbappe leaves on a free transfer, AS’s Marco Ruiz claims that PSG will go all out for Erling Haaland. It makes sense for the Ligue 1 giants to target Haaland, an out for out replacement for Mbappe in terms of scoring goals. They both are goal-scoring machines and are close replacements for one another in terms of their final output.

The Qatar-owned, Paris-based team are aware of Madrid’s intention of signing both Mbappe and Haaland and given the sour exchange of words lately from PSG camp this could be a move to infuriate Real Madrid, in my opinion.

Next. Real Madrid is indeed going for a historic 2022 summer transfer window. dark

Los Blancos are already pulled fast one on Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day by signing Eduardo Camavinga who has been on the French team’s radar for a long time. PSG will look to retaliate next season and they could offer Haaland an unmatchable contract to get him on board.

There’s a lot at stake to play for both sides. Meanwhile, for Erling Haaland, the Norwegian would have to choose between playing in one of the best leagues in the world for the most historic club or playing in a far less competitive league for a club with no prominent history.
