The Town of Rutherfordton's town council decided at its meeting Sept. 1 to do a widespread cancellation of town-sponsored events until further notice due to the impact of COVID-19 in the area.
Rutherfordton's Facebook page posted a copy of the letter on Thursday, Sept. 2, written and signed by town councilmembers.
They voted to suspend all town-sponsored events as well as the use of all town facilities until further notice, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The council said it would reevaluate this decision and whether to continue forward with it at each monthly council meeting.
"At a minimum," this suspension of events and facility use includes the cancellation of:
- Hilltop Fall Festival
- FAB
- Movies in the Park
- Vagabond Crowe Concert in Kiwanis Park
- Race for the Gold Soapbox Derby
- Purple Martin 7k
"We all want Rutherford County families to resume their lives, socially, economically, and safely," the town council letter read. "By banding together, we can achieve a Small Town Friendly community that supports our neighbors and protects our futures through vaccination, mask-wearing, social distancing, and an overabundance of empathy, kindness, and sweet tea."
