Authorities identify man in Sunday drowning at Saugatuck Dunes State Park

LAKE TWP — A man drowned Sunday afternoon near Saugatuck Dunes State Park, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office.

ACSO authorities identified the man as 30-year-old Ryan Harms in a release Tuesday morning. Harms was believed to be from the Chicago area just visiting Michigan. Authorities withheld his name until his family was notified. 

Deputies and emergency services responded to a call at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends of the victim told authorities that he had been in the water for 15-20 minutes by himself. The friends, along with some nearby beachgoers, pulled the man from the water and immediately began trying to resuscitate him. 

Despite the life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

AMR, Graafschap fire, and the DNR assisted the Allegan County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
