• Luke Bryan lost his older brother and sister—one to a car accident and one to unknown causes.
  • Despite the loss he’s experienced, he pushes on and lives life joyously.
  • Fans are applauding his approach to life, which he opened up about in his new docuseries, My Dirt Road Diary.

One look at Luke Bryan’s perpetually beaming face and you’d probably think he’s never experienced hard times. However, the country music star has lost both of his older siblings. Where his brother, Chris, lost his life in a car accident in 1996 when Luke was preparing to pursue his music career in Nashville, his sister Kelly passed away of unknown causes in 2007. Despite such tragedies, though, Luke has kept a smile on his face.

“I’m a pretty happy person,” Luke revealed in a 2018 interview with Billboard. “The loss we’ve dealt with has given me an appreciation of how precious and fragile life is. And yeah, I carry that mentality into my performances, and even into how I deal with people every day. When I meet people, I want them to leave going, ‘That guy doesn’t have a bad day.’”

Now, Luke is reflecting on that and his approach to life even more in his new 5-part docuseries, My Dirt Road Diary.

“I believe we were in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was a typical meet and greet. This little blonde-headed boy walks up to me; he goes, ‘Can I ask you a question?’ And I said, ‘Well, yeah, buddy,’ and I got down on one knee and he looks at me and he goes, ‘I wanna know how you get through every day, having lost your brother and your sister, because I lost my sister and I can’t get over it. My heart’s broken.’ It was a big moment for me because I understood that the way I live, with a smile on my face, is important to people,” Luke shared in a clip from the series, which he posted to Instagram accompanied by the caption, “It was a big moment for me. I’ll never forget it.”

As always, Luke’s fan immediately filled his comments section with support.

“LOVED this series. Where you came from, and all you and your family has been through has just made me love you even more,” one fan wrote.

“Man, keep being that inspiration that everyone needs right now,” another chimed in.

“I never binge watch anything but I did My Dirt Road Diary. I’ll probably watch it again,” someone else wrote.

If you, too, want to watch Luke’s docuseries, you can do so on Prime Video.
