Restaurant inspections: Julie’s Diner, Pies Guys, Sedgwick Heights, Azteca Mexican Grill have violations

Here are the food service inspections reported by the Onondaga County Health Department from August 15 to 21:

UNSATISFACTORY INSPECTIONS

Julie’s Diner

3800 Brewerton Road, North Syracuse, NY 13212

Inspection done 10:40 a.m. August 16, 2021

Reinspection is Required

Critical violations: Several cups of diced ham in cooler drawer at 62 degrees (corrected - voluntarily discarded).

Pan of 4 to 5 pounds of single layered cooked potato halves sitting on three-bay sink apron to cool at 98 to 106 degrees (corrected - moved to walk-in cooler).

Large can of roast beef/corned beef hash on cookline at 76 degrees (corrected - hash moved to cooler).

Violations: Back side of small refrigerator above cookline has dusty/dirty refrigeration unit directly over toasters. Squeeze bottles containing dispensible oils, sauces, and dressings not properly labeled.

Low cooler and several cookline cooler draws missing thermometers.

Plate of breakfast food stored on top of ice machine (corrected).

All poly cutting boards in poor repair with heavy staining and cut marks.

Bottom cooler draw on the cookline broken.

Meat slicer blade and blade guard dirty with dried food residue, and blade’s back side has possible rust. Dirty plastic bin containing raw mushroom trimmings stored between meat slicer and storage rack.

Exterior of bulk sugar bin dirty with greasy soil. Exterior of deep fryers and exterior of microwave oven dirty with greasy food soils. Wire racks in walk-in cooler dirty.

Hand wash sink not working.

All floor areas dirty with food and environmental soil.

Inspection done 2 p.m. August 17, 2021

Another Reinspection is Required

Critical violations: Reinspection of flip top cooler finds cooked sausage at 60 degrees and sliced/diced deli ham at 55 degrees. Several other products found in the cooler at acceptable temps. (corrected - approximately 1 pound of precooked sausage and 1.5 lbs of diced deli ham discarded).

Unattended bulk containers of liquid stored near garbage/ dumpster pad. Mosquitos, mosquito larve and drain flies witnessed at containers with standing water. Housefly infestation is improved but not eliminated. Serious insect disease vector hazard declared.

Violations: Three-bay sink has leaking faucet at center bay with a rag used to direct leaking water to center bay.

Hand wash sink lacks soap and paper towels (another hand wash sink was properly supplied).

Lids to dumpsters and grease recepticle open.

Floor under cookline dirty with grease, dropped food and organic buildups. Floor, walls and ceiling surfaces all have heavy staining.

Inspection done 11:30 a.m. August 17, 2021

Reinspection is Required

Critical violations: Approximately two dozen chicken legs in hot holding station at 116 to 135 degrees (correction - placed in oven and reheated to 165 degrees minimum and reintroduced to the adjusted hot hold and covered with a lid).

Violations: Mildew on the inside of the ice machine door and along the ice slide.

Some lower shelving in the kitchen dirty with greasy environmental soil. The exterior of several spring type plate holders dirty with food and environmental soil.

Mouse droppings on dry storage shelving and on floor below shelving (no evidence of mouse chewing or adulterated foodstuffs). Small flies in dish area adjacent to garbage disposer.

Floor in dish area dirty with accumulated food and environmental soil including under the dishmachine.

Azteca Mexican Grill

Inspection done 2 p.m. August 18, 2021

Reinspection is Required

Critical violations: Large pot of prepared cheese sauce at 108 degrees and stored on floor in kitchen (corrected - cheese sauce poured into shallow pans and placed in walk-in cooler to cool by approved method.)

Preparation top cooler across from cookline not able to maintin potentially hazardous foods at or below 45 degrees (corrected - food items discarded, operators directed to have cooler serviced/repaired).

Violations: Squeeze bottles containing oils and sauces stored at cookline with contents not labeled.

Exterior lids of squeeze bottles of sauces dirty.
