(SP) BRITAIN-LIVERPOOL-FOOTBALL-PREMIER LEAGUE-LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA

Welcome to the first, and worst, international break of the season. Just as soon as we had gotten are Barclay’s groove back on, FIFA came along asking for their slice of the pie. Bastards.

Regardless, we can take this time to take stock of things so far. And it’s...pretty, pretty, pretty good start for the Reds. Liverpool have amassed 7 points from the first 9, their only dropped points coming in frustrating circumstances against title contenders Chelsea. Still, undefeated, two clean sheets, and a +5 goal differential. Not perfect, but not far from it either.

In the name of taking stock so far, the club’s official website is asking for fans to vote for the Player of the Month for August. And there are some good choices so far!

You could do worse than voting for perennial favorite, Mohamed Salah, the one season wonder who is off to a hot start for the 5th season running. The Egyptian king leads all comers with 2 goals and 2 assists. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Diogo Jota is also off the mark with 2 goals of his own, including a crucial opening header against a stubborn and typically thuggish Burnley side.

Of course, Liverpool’s two clean sheets are also impressive, if one is inclined to vote for a more defensive player. Virgil van Dijk, while not back to his dominant best, is back and is impressive. Even an 80% Van Dijk is better than anything most clubs have at their disposal; his long-range passing and ability to quickly switch play is something this side has sorely missed.

And finally, there are the playmakers in (or near) the middle of the park. Trent Alexander-Arnold has started the campaign looking like he has a point to prove, and has already tallied an assist. Additionally, Harvey Elliott has so far lived up to the hype, and did not look out of place in the big call up against Chelsea.
