People not vaccinated against COVID-19 are being asked to stay home over Labor Day weekend.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky made the recommendation on Aug. 31, 2021.
"First and foremost, if you are unvaccinated, we would recommend not traveling," Dr. Walensky said.
As of Friday, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports 206 million people in the United States have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
"We have actually articulated that people who are fully vaccinated who are wearing masks can travel. Although given where we are with disease transmission right now we would say that people need to take their own, these risks into their own consideration as they think about traveling first and foremost, if you are unvaccinated we would recommend not traveling," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said.
Studies show the vaccine continues to be highly effective at reducing the risk of severe COVID-19 illness, hospitalization and death.
