Women's Soccer Home Opener Ends in a Draw

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's soccer team hosted the Merced College Blue Devils in their 2021 home opener at the BC Soccer Field. The Renegades would take a hold of the game early while holding MC from a goal into most of the game but in the end both teams would go home with a draw, 1-1.

Just five minutes into the game, forward Mikayla Polanco would find a hole right in the center and score an easy goal for the Renegades. This gave the women a little confidence and a quick breather going into the rest of the game knowing they were on top. BC held on strong defensively going into the half holding the Blue Devils only to four shots on goal including goalkeeper's Katelyn Gonzalez two saves in the first.

Going into the second half, Gonzalez would save BC from tying at the 11th minute. Unfortunately, the Renegades would ease up on their defense with just ten minutes left in the game and the Blue Devils would find themselves all tied up. Merced would try their luck not one but two times shortly after that goal, but the Gades held them to one goal to end the game.

With a home opener tied, the Renegades now move on to an overall record 1-0-1. Up next, the women's soccer team will play again at home on Friday, September 10 at 4pm. This Saturday's game against Cerro Coso has been cancelled.
