While I thought it would be California where most movies are filmed, it's actually New York City! However, some of the greatest movies ever were filmed in Boston.

In no particular order, here are my top ten movies filmed in Boston, Massachusetts.

1. "MYSTIC RIVER" (2003) KEVIN BACON, SEAN PENN...

This movie was absolutely fantastic. The subject matter is heavy and the acting is superb. Some good shots of Boston's Tobin Bridge and the city's working-class neighborhoods can be seen in this Clint Eastwood-directed masterpiece.

2. "FIELD OF DREAMS" (1989) KEVIN COSTNER, JAMES EARL JONES...

This sports fantasy film is a must-see. While most of the movie was filmed in Iowa, where the film takes place, when Ray Kinsella is implored to go to a Red Sox game, there are some great shots of a Fenway night game.

3. "GOOD WILL HUNTING" (1997) ROBIN WILLIAMS, MATT DAMON...

I mean, come on! Who doesn't love this movie? Robin Williams agreed to be in this wonderful film about a mathematical genius bogged down by childhood trauma, giving Matt Damon and Ben Affleck their first huge hit.

4. "SHUTTER ISLAND" (2010) LEONARDO DICAPRIO, MARK RUFFALO...

This is another movie based on a Dennis Lehane fiction novel. Easier to follow than "Inception", this thriller is massively entertaining. The Lighthouse scene was filmed on the peninsula of Nahant, MA.

5. "THE TOWN" (2010) BEN AFFLECK, JEREMY RENNER...

Ben Affleck has directed and starred in some lame-ass movies; however, this is NOT one of them. Taking place in Charlestown, MA, this bank heist thriller is sure to satisfy.

6. "THE PERFECT STORM" (2000) GEORGE CLOONEY, MARK WAHLBERG...

When Hurricane Grace collided with another powerful storm in the Atlantic in October of 1991 it created the "perfect storm". Partially filmed in Gloucester, MA, home port to the fishing vessel the Andrea Gail, all onboard perish trying to head back home through extreme weather.

7. "THE DEPARTED" (2006) LEONARDO DICAPRIO, JACK NICHOLSON...

The ultimate Martin Scorsese Boston movie based on Whitey Bulger. This film is littered with "A-listers" including Matt Damon and Alec Baldwin and is filmed completely filmed in Boston.

8. "MANCHESTER BY THE SEA" (2016) CASEY AFFLECK, MICHELLE WILLIAMS...

Filmed in a bunch of north shore towns including Lynn, Swampscott, and Salem, this incredibly sad film will make you CRY, at Ieast I did. If you want to see a film that moves you emotionally and can handle untimely death, this film is really well done.

9. "PATRIOT'S DAY" (2016) MARK WAHLBERG, KEVIN BACON...

For anyone who doubted Wahlberg's acting skills even after "The Departed", this film about the Boston Marathon bombings of 2013 portrays the real-life events of that terrible day pretty well.

10. "BLACK MASS" (2015) JOHNNY DEPP, JOEL EDGERTON...

Yet another film based on mob boss, Whitey Bulger, this Scott Cooper directed film grossed $99 million dollars and was filmed entirely in Boston. Depp did a wicked good Boston accent.
