You don’t want to wait… for the original Dawson’s Creek theme song! Netflix, which currently boasts all six seasons of the WB teen soap opera, announced that the iconic Paula Cole song “I Don’t Wanna Wait” is officially back in the show’s opening credits.

Alanis Morissette’s “Hand in My Pocket” was used for the pilot episode, but after she declined to hand it over for use in future episodes, executive producer Paul Stupin went with Cole’s single, which had already been licensed by the WB.

“It just seemed like the right suggestion and the right idea at the time,” Stupin told Billboard in 2018. “It’s so moving and so powerful, and it became so identified [with Dawson’s Creek].”

However, when the show was released on DVD, Sony replaced “I Don’t Wanna Wait” with Canadian folk singer Jann Arden’s “Run Like Mad.” Thanks to Netflix, Cole’s song has finally been restored to its rightful Dawson’s Creek place.

Originally airing from 1998 to 2003, Dawson’s Creek followed aspiring teen filmmaker Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) and his close-knit group of friends as they dealt with all the ups and downs of growing up in the fictional small town of Capeside, Massachusetts.

The show helped launch the careers of A-list stars like Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson, Busy Philipps, and more.

All six seasons of Dawson’s Creek are streaming now on Netflix.
