Dev Patel's medieval fantasy drama The Green Knight has landed a UK release date.

Variety revealed the film directed by David Lowery will hit cinemas across the UK on September 24. Alongside its theatrical release, this epic tale starring the Skins actor will also become available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

The Green Knight is set in Arthurian times and follows Sir Gawain, a knight of the Round Table played by Patel. The film is based on the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

King Arthur's headstrong nephew, Sir Gawain embarks on a mission to confront the Knight – a gigantic tree-like creature. Gawain beheads the knight in a quest for glory, knowing that in a year's time he must travel to his Green Chapel and claim the same grisly fate.

UK-based fans of Patel were left disappointed earlier this summer when The Green Knight was suddenly pulled from its scheduled theatrical slot. After the US premiere on July 30, the film's UK debut had been set for August 6 originally.

Sadly, The Green Knight didn't make it to cinemas due to concerns over UK's surge in Covid-19 cases. Until now, to the joy of filmmaker David Lowery, who directed, wrote, produced and edited the film.

The movie opened to rave reviews earlier this year, praising Patel's "magnetic" performance, as well as the performances from the star-studded ensemble, critics dubbed the movie a "fantastical adventure" and "an enchanting nightmare".
