Gardner Minshew continues to add to his legend of bizarre NFL stories entering just his third season in the league. The newest Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has a score to settle with head coach Nick Sirianni -- which doesn't even involve his place on the depth chart.

During a pre-draft interview with the Indianapolis Colts two years ago, Sirianni challenged Minshew to a game of H-O-R-S-E. Sirianni, then the Colts offensive coordinator, took home the gold.

"We were playing H-O-R-S-E and it was getting pretty competitive," Minshew said at his introductory press conference with the Eagles earlier this week. "I had a button-up (shirt) on and I had to take that off because the game was getting a little too competitive. I think that really stood out. I think that might have played a role into why I'm here.

"I was up and then we started talking ball, he was kind of distracting me. I took my shirt off and it didn't help and he just continued to beat me. That's why I'm back. I'm back for revenge."

If anything, the rock-paper-scissors interviews in Philadelphia aren't the first time Sirianni used backyard games to evaluate a player. His unorthodox methods played a significant role in landing the Eagles head coaching job, a surprising hire at the time.

Sirianni's quirkiness has been a positive for the Eagles, as the team performed well in joint practices with the New England Patriots and New York Jets during training camp. His ability to connect with players is why Minshew is excited to be in Philadelphia -- and why Sirianni is fired up to be around Minshew again.

"I've gotten to see him play in person two times a year," Sirianni said. "The first game up there last year we opened up the season at Jacksonville, and he was 19 of 20 against our defense and really played a good game. I've watched him play some good games. He's the third (QB), but I'm really excited to work with him."
