23-year-old man fatally shot by girlfriend in north Harris County, deputies say

HOUSTON – Deputies are investigating after they said a 23-year-old man was fatally shot by his girlfriend in north Harris County Friday.

Deputies said the shooting happened in the 1600 block of Lone Oak Road around 4:45 a.m.

According to investigators, the 24-year-old woman, Jailene Marie Hernandez, shot her boyfriend, 23-year-old Alexis Carbajal Tavera. Deputies said witnesses told an argument that turned physical occurred before the shooting. Investigators said sometime during the fight, Hernandez grabbed a handgun from a bedroom and fired one time, sticking Tavera.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.

The man died at the scene, deputies said.

Hernandez has been charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.

Deputies said they are unsure if the shooting was a result of domestic violence or whether there were previous calls to the home.
