Apple's Sept. 14 Special Event Could Mean A New iPhone Is Coming Soon

Most iPhone fans know Apple usually releases its newest devices in the fall. Following a late release in 2020 due to the pandemic, it’s looking like the tech giant may be reverting back to its regular schedule. Now that summer is nearly over, people are wondering if there will be an Apple iPhone event for September 2021. Well, Apple finally announced a special event for Tuesday, Sept. 14, but the company is staying mum about the exact details. Here’s what to know about the potential unveiling of a new iPhone next week.

On Tuesday, Sept. 7, Apple confirmed the rumors that had been swirling about a possible fall event. The company announced a “California Streaming” event for Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. PT. The “special Apple Event” will be broadcast live from Apple Park in Cupertino, California, but that’s all the tech giant revealed in its email announcement. Of course, many are speculating this will be the keynote where Apple reveals the next device in its storied line of iPhones. Elite Daily reached out to Apple for comment on the Sept. 14 event details and whether it will include an iPhone release, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

A Sept. 14 iPhone announcement would be a return to normal, following a split announcement in 2020. Following a September 2020 event for Apple Watch Series 6 and the 8th Gen iPad, Apple announced its last flagship iPhone (iPhone 12) in October 2020, which was later than the previous years’ releases. (In September 2019, the iPhone 11 series release followed Apple’s Sept. 10 keynote.) Coronavirus pandemic-related issues seemingly caused the late release in 2020, but Apple aficionados are expecting a iPhone announcement and release in September 2021.

Tech analyst Jon Prosser tweeted reported launch dates for would-be new iPhones following the new timeline, listing Sept. 17 as the likely pre-order date and Sept. 24 as the release date. Elite Daily reached out to Apple for comment on reports of new iPhone releases, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

During the rumored iPhone event, tech analysts from multiple outlets suggest people can expect four new iPhone models, reportedly called the iPhone 13. Specifically, the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max models, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In addition, most expect Apple to unveil the new Apple Watch Series 7 during the event. Apple has yet to confirm any reports of new devices.

Analysts are already sharing what the reported iPhone 13 models could entail. Per Apple Insider, the phones will probably stick to a similar design as the iPhone 12, but with a single sheet of glass covering the camera lenses instead of individual sheets. There’s also a rumor that the new iPhones will have better durability and increased water resistance, higher than the iPhone 12’s IP68 water resistance, which lets you submerge your phone for up to 30 minutes under up to 6 meters (about 19 feet) of water.

There are no confirmed details about how the new iPhones will differ from 2020’s iPhone 12 models, but hopefully fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see what Apple has planned. With a Sept. 14 Apple event on the books, you could be pre-ordering a new iPhone soon.
