The Astros are reportedly promoting outfielder Jose Siri to the major leagues.

The Houston Astros are promoting Jose Siri to the major-leagues, as it was first mentioned by Bryan Abreu on his Instagram story (reported by Apollo Media). I messaged the Triple-A standout shortly after, as he confirmed to me that he is on the move.

While a recent journeyman, the Astros signed Siri to a minor-league deal last winter for Triple-A outfielder depth. The right-hander hasn’t been added to the 40-man roster yet this season, but with Taylor Jones and Zack Greinke on the 10-day injured list due to health and safety protocol, there is an easy roster seat there.

The Astros can also return Siri to Triple-A once Jones and Greinke are set to return. This is a move that would be similar to designating him for assignment without exposing him to waivers. If Siri goes straight to the active roster, then someone like Enoli Paredes or Robel Garcia could be optioned as corresponding moves.

Siri has slashed .318/.369/.552 in 94 games this season with the Sugar Land Skeeters. The right-hander has found recent power this season, after displaying an OPS of .497 in Triple-A in 2019.

Chas McCormick’s return is also reportedly coming this weekend, as the outfield is looking a bit crowded. After being claimed off waivers twice in the last two years, Siri will finally see his first stint at the major-league level with one year of options remaining.
