The Cubs are back at Wrigley Field tonight, kicking off a four-game series against the last place Pirates. Keegan Thompson is on the mound for Chicago and the right-hander Mitch Keller will take the ball for Pittsburgh. Here’s how David Ross will line ’em up.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Rafael Ortega, CF
2. Frank Schwindel, 1B
3. Ian Happ, LF
4. Patrick Wisdom, 3B
5. Matt Duffy, 2B
6. Jason Heyward, RF
7. Robinson Chirinos, C
8. Sergio Alcantara, SS
9. Keegan Thompson, P
Ross continues to roll with a pretty static 1-6 (at least, in theory, as the order was mucked up yesterday by Matt Duffy’s late scratch (neck)). But Duffy is back in there today (hooray), and without Willson Contreras, Nico Hoerner, or David Bote back yet, this is pretty much the group we see against most righties.
The only new stuff on a day-to-day basis is typically who’s behind the plate and who’s at shortstop. Today, that would be Robinson Chirinos and Sergio Alcantara, batting 7th and 8th.
Without a DH, we might see Alfonso Rivas grab some starts at first here and there, but Frank Schwindel is making that a very tough call.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (7:05 CT).
