Low-cost parvo vaccine, pet food available at Angels of Assisi clinic on Friday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Want to protect your pooch from a dangerous illness for a low cost? Angels of Assisi will be offering a drive-thru parvo vaccination clinic for dogs of all ages in Roanoke Friday afternoon, no registration necessary.

According to the shelter, the clinic will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 at the Washington Park Upper Level in Roanoke. Vaccines are $5 each.

Since this is a drive-thru clinic, pet owners are asked to remain in their vehicles and not to let their dogs out of the vehicle.

The mobile clinic team will be offering the parvo vaccine — which helps prevent parvovirus, distemper, parainfluenza, and infectious hepatitis — for $5 each on a first come, first serve basis.

However, the first Parvo vaccination requires a booster, so if your dog came to the clinic last month to receive their first vaccination, you are asked to bring your dog back for their second vaccination.

Angels of Assisi says the parvovirus is a dangerous and deadly gastrointestinal illness that has been on the rise throughout the Roanoke Valley over the last few months. 

“Lately, we have seen a big increase in the number of both puppies and adult dogs that have contracted the parvovirus,” said Dayna Reynolds, Director of Community Engagement at Angels of Assisi. “Parvo is a very dangerous illness, and it can be fatal. We hope that through the parvo vaccination clinic, we can help ensure the health and safety of pets throughout the valley.”

In addition, organizers say the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection will be at Friday’s clinic with pet food to give out to pet owners having trouble feeding their furry friends.
