Idris Elba Drops Out as Co-Host of 2021 GRM Daily Rated Awards

British actor Idris Elba has dropped out as co-host of the 2021 GRM Daily Rated Awards due to “unfortunate isolation circumstances,” the U.K.-based rap and grime outlet GRM Daily announced Tuesday (Sept. 14).  

British actor/comedian Michael Dapaah is set to replace Elba. Model Jourdan Dunn is still slated to co-host the ceremony, as initially reported on Sept. 2.

Male artist of the year nominee Tion Wayne and video of the year nominee Pa Salieu are on the bill to perform during the awards show. Wayne reached No. 11 on the Billboard Global 200 in May 2021.

Other nominees scheduled to perform are Backroad Gee, ENNY and Potter Payper. U.K. garage act Heartless Crew has also been added to the lineup.

Comedian Mo Gilligan and radio host Julie Aldenuga helmed the last two shows.

Dapaah is best known for his portrayal of Big Shaq in the U.K. Under that pseudonym, Dapaah plays a fictionalized rapper and released the parody track “Man’s Not Hot” in 2017.

Dunn graced the cover of Vogue Greece’s September issue.

The GRM Daily Rated Awards honors the top names in the British rap, hip-hop, and grime scene. Grime icon Stormzy, rapper Slowthai, and R&B singer Jorja Smith are a few of the artists nominated at this year’s awards show.

The winners will be revealed live on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. BST during the virtual ceremony on GRM’s official YouTube channel.
