Reds & Cardinals split twin bill, Braves lose, Cubs win Wednesday

The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds got the best of each other in a doubleheader in Cincinnati. Paul Goldschmidt homered twice, including the go-ahead home run to give St. Louis a 5-4 win in Game One. In the second game, Nick Castellanos hit a two-run home run in the first and a grand slam in the second as the Reds won 12-2. Sonny Gray allowed just two runs over five innings to earn the win.

The Reds are off today before hosting Detroit for the weekend beginning tomorrow night. The Cardinals are also off today.

Elsewhere in the National League

The Atlanta Braves lost for the third straight time to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3. Atlanta begins a weekend series at the Colorado Rockies tonight.

Interleague

Justin Steele and Adbert Alzolay combined to toss a two-hit shutout in the Cubs’ 3-0 win over the Twins in Minnesota. Chicago held the Twins to just one run in their two-game sweep. The Cubs welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening.
