Lazio are considering signing Brazilian defender David Luiz on a free transfer.

As reported by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today, the 34-year-old Brazilian defender is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Arsenal earlier this summer. The player is currently in talks with Flamengo, but may be tempted into staying in Europe.

On Tuesday evening, coach Maurizio Sarri and president Claudio Lotito discussed the idea of signing David Luiz, who the 62-year-old Italian coach knows from his time at Chelsea.

The 34-year-old David Luiz is an experienced and charismatic defender, who knows Sarri’s system fro their time in London. The player also would’t take up a non-EU player slot in the Lazio squad, being in possession of a Portuguese passport.

The Brazilian defender’s salary requests are quite high, around €3 million net per season, but the Growth Decree would guarantee some tax advantages in this situation.

David Luiz would be interested in the move to Lazio, liking the idea of playing in Serie A under Sarri.
