WEST POINT – The first depth chart for Army football was released on Wednesday and – as expected – there’s still no definitive word on who the starting quarterback will be this season.

The season opener is Saturday in Atlanta against Georgia State (noon, ESPNU).

Junior Tyhier Tyler and senior Christian Anderson have been listed as either/or for the signal caller role. Anderson started the 2019 Army-Navy game and was the incumbent headed into the 2020 season. Injuries opened the door for Tyler to break in, first as a reserve and later as starter.

Army quarterback Tyhier Tyler (2) celebrates scoring a touchdown against Navy last December. Army defeated Navy 15-0. AP

Anderson has started six of 14 career games - all in the past two seasons. He has rushed for 848 yards and eight touchdowns and completed 27 of 70 passes for 350 yards and two scores. Tyler made his collegiate debut last season in reserve against Texas San Antonio. In seven games, and four starts, he rushed for 578 yards and five touchdowns and completed two of four throws for 53 yards.

Though not listed, it is expected Jemel Jones and Jabari Laws are next in line at quarterback, ahead of Cade Ballard and Maurice Bellan.

The lead fullbacks (B-backs) are Tyson Riley and Anthony Adkins, but the Army coaches plan on shuttling in as many as a half-dozen in a game, including punishing runner Jakobi Buchanan. The halfbacks are Tyrell Robinson, Brandon Walters, A.J. Howard and Braheam Murphy. The tight ends are Josh Lingenfelter and Chris Cameron. The wide receivers are Reikan Donaldson and Sean Eckert.

The offensive line starters will likely be Jordyn Law and Noah Knapp on the left side, Connor Bishop at center and Dean Powell and Connor Finucane on the right. The backups are listed as Kam Holloway, Zack Ward, Jackson Filipowicz, Grady Chapman and Simon Dellinger.

The outside linebackers are Andre Carter and Malkelm Morrison, with Jaylen Jacobs and Daryan McDonald as backups. The inside linebackers are Spencer Jones and Arik Smith, ahead of Brian Burton and Peyton Hampton.

A veteran secondary has corners Jabari Moore and Julian McDuffie, strong safety Marquel Broughton and free safety Cedrick Cunningham. The backups are listed as Isaiah Morris and Cameron Jones on the corner, Quindrelin Hammonds at strong safety and D’Andre Tobias at free safety.

Quinn Maretzki and Cole Talley have been listed as either/or on kickoffs, field goals and point after tries. Zach Harding is the incumbent punter, ahead of his holder Brooks Hosea. Quarterback Jemel Jones is the backup holder. Ryan Aguilar is the long snapper ahead of Patrick Szczesniak. Tyrell Robinson is back at the chief return man, with A.J. Howard also slated.
