An organization that is pursuing nonprofit status will establish its headquarters inside Temple Beth El.

An organization pursuing nonprofit status has secured a new headquarters location in Southside.

Reiki Association of the Southeast is moving into 400 square feet inside Temple Beth El at 2179 Highland Ave.

The organization applied with the state for nonprofit status on Feb. 15, and the 501(c)3 is moving through the system. Charter members of the nonprofit include Terri Ann Heiman, president; Rhonda White, vice president; Andrea Carroll, secretary; Paul Wolff, treasurer; and Marissa Jamieson, attorney.

Heiman said the group was created to support all Reiki practitioners in practice as well as bring education and awareness of the concept's benefits to the community.

"The Reiki Association has two goals in mind," Heiman said. "One, is to partner with other health and wellness providers, clinics, hospitals and agencies in the Southeast to add Reiki to their healing skills and treatments. The second goal is to support the professional practice of all Reiki practitioners in the healing arts."

The Reiki Association will get its start by providing services from Heiman, White, Wolff and member Bo Andrews. They will offer lectures, classes, healing circles, private treatments and create a cooperative workspace for members.

Reiki is a natural system of healing that brings the body back into balance on all levels. According to a release, the National Institute of Health recognizes Reiki as part of complementary and alternative medicine and places it within a domain called energy medicine.
