WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) - Eligible Americans, so far, have received a total of $3,200 in stimulus checks, not including payments they may have received from the expanded child tax credit program, but a great deal are still struggling with economic fallout from the pandemic.
Many believed that the $1,400 stimulus check that was distributed earlier in 2021 was the last of its kind, but there is now speculation that this may not be the case.
The House recently voted to advance a $3.5 trillion budget plan, leaving the Democratic party in a better position to create a tax-funded social spending package.
American Enterprise Institute tax expert Kyle Pomerleau told NBC News that the party is considering a plan that could raise $800 billion, which would be roughly enough to pay for two new $1,400 stimulus checks,
Democrats, however, would need at least 10 Republican votes to move forward with the plan, but nearly 50 Republican lawmakers have already said they would oppose it.
Party tensions make another round of stimulus checks unlikely to be seen anytime soon, but not impossible.
