Gary Cohen’s call of Javy Baez’s scoring the winning run for the New York Mets is amazing.

Nothing will top Gary Cohen’s call of the zaniness surrounding Javy Baez‘s signature New York Mets moment on Tuesday afternoon.

While the Mets won both games over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, one of them was a continuation of an April 11 game, you know, back when Baez was on the Chicago Cubs. New York was down four runs to the Fish entering the ninth inning. Well, the Mets plated five in the final frame, including Baez’s heads up scamper around the bases.

This was in the midst of ThumbGate.

Here is Cohen on the call as the Mets win in a walk-off with thumbs up to be had all around.

Up to this point, Baez’s brief tenure in Queens had been marred by controversy. He and fellow infielder Francisco Lindor where the founding fathers of the Thumbs Down Movement. Instead of trolling Texas football, they were trolling Mets fans.

Naturally, that did not go over very well. While he did apologize for offending anyone he offended, winning a game like this could go a long way.

While it remains to be seen if the Mets will catch the Braves or the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East in the final month of the regular season, we will always have this extra-special moment between Baez and the Mets fans in the makeup from a game originally started back in mid-April. If this is not Cohen’s greatest call to date, I do not know what to tell you. Thumbs up to all involved!

Baseball is an incredibly quirky game, but Cohen’s call of Baez’s winning run is why it is the best.
