Yesterday was emotional because it marked the 24th anniversary of Princess Diana’s tragic death. While fans across the world shared heartfelt messages on social media, there’s one tribute that stood out.
Author Allan Mallinson recently honored the late royal on Twitter by sharing a stunning black-and-white photo from their first meeting, which he says has never been seen by the public.
In the photo, Princess Diana is sitting in a chair directly across from Mallinson. (Not only is he a former British Army officer, but he’s also the mastermind behind the Matthew Hervey book series.)
The princess is wearing a gorgeous black dress, which features an off-the-shoulder neckline. Although we aren’t positive where the photo was taken, we can assume it was a royal residence based on the fancy decor.
“As it’s the day (1997), I thought I’d post this photo, which I don’t think has ever been published,” Mallinson wrote in the caption. “Sitting for her portrait as Colonel-in-Chief 13/18H.”
He continued, “I had just brought the newly made brooch from Garrards.” Mallinson is referring to Princess Diana’s accessory. Although the brooch was returned to the regiment after her passing, it’s now on display at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne. *Adds to bucket list*
Fans immediately replied to the post with heartfelt messages, writing, “Diana was so beautiful. What a pity she was taken from us way too soon. May the Lord give her peace & rest & love for her soul.” Someone even commented on Mallinson’s scruffy appearance: “Amazed you got away with hair that long and a beard!”
