Nicolinni’s Owner Has Tenant for Part of Site, Auctions Contents

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The owner of the former Nicolinni’s Ristorante has a deal with a tenant for part of the land at the site, with an online auction underway for the building’s contents before it is demolished.

In July, Nicolinni’s announced that it was closing its Boardman location. It occupied part of a building that was constructed on the site of the Boathouse, the first establishment in Boardman to receive a liquor license.

Two signs hang on the front of the 1247 Boardman-Poland Road building. One is for ProQuality Demolition, Campbell. The other advertises an online auction by Basinger Auction Services Ltd. now underway for the building’s contents.

Patrick Lavanty, who opened the Boardman Nicolinni’s in 2005, said he would retain control of the Boardman property after the restaurant building is demolished and lease the land, dividing it into two one-acre parcels.

He already has a contract with a “corporate tenant” for a ground lease for about half of the property, he reported. The tenant plans to be open sometime in 2022, but Lavanty could not provide more specific information regarding the identity of the tenant or its timetable.

“There are some interested parties on the second parcel but no deal has been finalized as of yet,” he continued. He expects demolition to begin sometime in October.

Meanwhile, an online auction is underway for the contents of the shuttered restaurant.

The auction began about a week and a half ago, said Paul Basinger, owner of Basinger Auction Service. The auction, which Basinger Auction Service is hosting on its Bid-Assets site, runs through 2 p.m. Sept. 14.

Contents being sold, according to the online catalog, range from lighting fixtures, furnishings, artwork and glassware to wine and cabinets, coolers, commercial ranges and other cooking and food preparation equipment. Even decorative landscape rocks are up for bid, Basinger reported.

“There’s just a ton of stuff,” he remarked. Buyers can place bids online and can even set a maximum bid for the items they want.

In addition to viewing the items online, interested parties can preview the items at the closed restaurant in person from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 12 and from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 13. Successful bidders can pick up their purchases from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 though 18.
