SAN FRANCISCO - After the Brewers won the series opener Monday night, San Francisco Giants third baseman Kris Bryant said he thought he was done facing Milwaukee’s strong pitching staff after being traded from the Chicago Cubs at the July 30 deadline.

And the Brewers felt the same way about Bryant, who singled and doubled in that game Monday night.

In his first 23 games with San Francisco, Bryant batted .279 with six doubles, six  homers, 13 RBI and .884 OPS.

Bryant, 29, won the National League MVP in 2016 and led the Cubs to the World Series that year.

“He’s obviously been a great addition for the Giants,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “He’s a tough out,  no matter what. He’s a tough guy to go through a bunch (of at-bats). We are very familiar with him.

“We kind of know his strengths and we know his weaknesses. Sometimes it’s good; sometimes it’s bad, because he has knowledge, too.”
