Nine pitches, nine strikes, three outs… the immaculate inning.

On April 18, 1964, Sandy Koufax threw his third perfect inning, the most by any pitcher.

That is until Aug. 26, 2021 when Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale took the mound against the Minnesota Twins to record his third immaculate inning, tying the Hall of Famer’s record – a record that stood for 57 years.

Can Sale, who recently made a AAA rehab start with Worcester Red Sox against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Aug. 7, take the next step to own the record outright? Only time will tell.

The RailRiders Photoblog captures exciting moments and players from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders baseball games at PNC Field in Moosic.
