High School football has returned for the 2021 fall season. Let’s take this chance to wave and take notice of these future Hawkeyes.

It’s Week 1 of high school football in Iowa. Each week we will examine stats, future opponents, and highlight videos.

Jacob Bostick, WR

Hometown: Palatine, IL (Palatine)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 170

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Bostick was held to just 11 yards on 2 receptions as Palatine lost at St. Charles North 24-0. He did have a long reception called back to do an offensive alignment penalty and a would-be touchdown pass dropped.

This week Palatine (0-1) will face Hersey (1-0).

Caden Crawford, DL

Hometown: Lansing, KS (Lansing)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 240

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Crawford and the Lansing Lions open the season on September 3rd against Schlage.

Jack Dotzler, OL

Hometown: Waunakee, WI (Waunakee)

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 265

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Jack Dotzler’s Waunakee Warriors moved to 2-0 with a 34-31 victory over Middleton. Dotzler has missed the first two games due to injury.

On Friday Waunakee (2-0) hosts Janesville Parker (1-1).

Aaron Graves, DL

Hometown: Gowrie, IA (Southeast Valley)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 270

Stars: 247 Sports - 4 / Rivals - 4

The Jaguars blanked Interstate 35 to win their opening game 28-0. Graves recorded 4 tackles and 1 TFL. He also plays on the offensive line and appears to be a big fan of pancakes judging by his Week 1 highlights.

Southeast Valley (1-0) will travel to Emmetsburg (0-1) on Friday.

Kale Krogh, OL

Hometown: Huxley, IA (Ballard)

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 265

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

The Bombers lost to Bondurant-Farrar 47-14 in their opening week. Krogh had 2 tackles on defense.

Ballard (0-1) will travel to ADM (1-0) this week.

Carson May, QB

Hometown: Jones, OK (Jones)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 220

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

May did all he could for for their offense, but Jones fell 14-27 to Bethany. Through the air he went 21-35 for 305 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Longhorns struggles in the redzone cost them additional points.

May flashes a big arm and nice mobility for a quarterback with his size.

Jones (0-1) will host Lincoln Christian (1-0) on September 3rd.

Jayden Montgomery, LB

Hometown: Green Bay, WI (Bay Port)

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 215

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Montgomery was out of action, but Bay Port handled Notre Dame Academy 70-35.

Next week Bay Port (2-0) will face off against Sheboygan North (0-2).

Addison Ostrenga, TE

Hometown: Sun Prairie, WI (Sun Prairie)

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 220

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Once again Sun Prairie’s offense put up 49 points as they won against Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 49-21. Ostrenga paced the Cardinals offense with 53 yards on 3 receptions. The future tight end plays both ways (had an interception on defense) and also is active on special teams. His Hudl video includes him covering kicks as well. Not often do you see someone who projects at his position catching tunnel screens or swing pass/laterals while being the motion man.

Jaziun Patterson, RB

Hometown: Deefield Beach, FL (Deerfield Beach)

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 190

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 4

Patterson started his season with 15 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown in a winning effort for the Bucks. Deerfield Beach was able to defeat Edison 30-22 to start their season. Patterson efficiently presses the line of scrimmage and makes one cut before getting downhill. He also appears natural and fluid catching passes out of the backfield.

Deefield Beach (1-0) will travel to Dillard (1-1) for this week’s game.

Future Classes

Maddux Borcherding-Johnson, DL (2023)

Hometown: Norwalk, IA (Norwalk)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 270

Stars: 247 Sports - 3 / Rivals - 3

Norwalk defeated Pella 34-31 to kick off their season with Borcherding-Johnson recording 3 tackles and 1 TFL.

Next up with for Norwalk (1-0) is a road game at Des Moines Lincoln (1-0).

Cam Buffington, LB (2024)

Hometown: Winfield, IA (Winfield-Mt Union)

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 200

The Wolves used a 48 point second quarter to route Moravia in 8-man football 84-34. Buffington showed why he is a high level prospect by dominating all facets of the game. At quarterback he went 11-15 for 288 yards and 6 touchdowns. He carried the ball 20 times for 160 yards and 4 touchdowns.

On defense, Buffington recorded 5.5 tackles with 1.5 TFL. It didn’t stop there as he also had 1 kick return. He took that back 83 yards for the score.

Winfield-Mt Union (1-0) hosts Iowa Valley (1-1) for Homecoming this week.

Cody Fox, OL (2024)

Hometown: Winthrop, IA (East Buchanan)

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 265

Fox helped pave the way to 351 yards rushing as the Buccaneers defeated Highland 24-12 in their opening game. On defense, Fox had 3 tackles and 0.5 TFL. The big sophomore also punts for East Buchanan, which is reason alone for everyone to take a fair catch and not worry about him taking you out as the last line of defense on the return.

East Buchanan (1-0) will host North Linn (1-0) on September 3rd.
