Robert Schaefer

Robert Vincent Schaefer, 93, of Diagonal, passed away Aug. 28, 2021. Open viewing will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, with the family present Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Knowlton Cemetery. Memorials are to the cemetery.

Bob was born Feb. 29, 1928, in rural Adams County, the fourth child of Harold William and Bernice Lewie Madison Schaefer.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Jean Carson on Nov. 23, 1946, in Troy, Kansas.

Bob enjoyed farming where he raised corn and soybeans, but his #1 love was cattle.

Left to cherish the memories are his daughter Caryl Ann and husband Brian Fine; grandchildren Clint Fine, Rachel Honey and her husband Trent, Ryan Fine and his wife Sara; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob also had an extended family who also survive him: the “Minnesota Schaefer’s” which include Geraldine Wallaker, Borman “Bud” Schaefer, Dale and Janet Schaefer, Galen Schaefer, Barb and Eugene Gullickson, Bonnie and Harlan Hoakinson and Bob Braaten.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; wife Betty in 2002; son, Randy, in 2008; brother Lowell R. Schaefer (Maxine); sisters: Thressa Willey (Don); Darlene Ricker (Eldon); two half-siblings Lowell Schaefer and Shirley Braaten; and in-laws Robert Wallaker and Marie Schaefer.
