Crews are making 'significant' progress removing cars after a train derailment in Chickasaw County lead to a spill of what had previously been considered hazardous material.
But officials say after they evaluated the railcar of concern, it was deemed not to be a hazard any longer.
Still the Chickasaw County Emergency Management Agency are asking the public to avoid travelling in the area near 220th Street between Jasper Avenue and Ivanhoe Avenue.
Flooding and increased truck travel have rapidly deteriorated condition of the gravel roads, according to the emergency management's Facebook page.
New Hampton Fire Department, Chickasaw Rescue Squad and Chickasaw County Emergency Management continue to work closely with Canadian Pacific, Iowa DNR, EPA, and numerous private contactors.
