The Heineken Man of the Match Spotlight: Robin Jansson

On a night where Orlando City tied its club record for most clean sheets in a season, it was its Viking in the middle who shone the brightest.

Robin Jansson thoroughly dominated Inter Miami DP Gonzalo Higuaín and everyone else the Herons threw at him, earning Heineken Man of the Match honors for the Lions’ 0-0 draw with their Florida rivals on Friday night. The result ensures Orlando will be unbeaten against Miami for the 2021 MLS regular season, sporting a 1-0-2 record for the year against the Club’s southern neighbors.

Jansson started and went all 90 minutes for Orlando and completely owned the stage. The Swede led his side with three clearances and nine ball recoveries, also chipping in a tackle and a foul drawn. Jansson helped limit Inter Miami to just five shots total and only one in the second half. The Viking also won all three of his duels on the night.

On the other side, Jansson very well could have had his first MLS goal for Orlando City, scoring a rocket from outside the box with his weaker right foot. However, VAR intervened and chalked off the goal for a marginal touch by an offside Tesho Akindele.

Beyond the goal-that-could-have-been, Jansson was his usual efficient self on the ball, hitting on 55 of his 59 passes, including 20 of 21 in the Miami half.
