Wilson Ramos' 2021 season is over, and Cleveland's catching depth took a hit on Monday.

In Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox, Ramos went down with an apparent leg injury, and it was announced on Monday that Ramos tore his ACL and sprained his MCL. The injury will require surgery, though no date has been set.

Ramos, 34, had been providing Cleveland with some depth as the only position player not under club control past this season. In nine games with Cleveland, Ramos went 7-for-31 (.226) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Ramos' injury leaves Austin Hedges as the only healthy catcher on the 40-man roster with Roberto Perez still on the 10-day injured list with shoulder inflammation. Ramos will head to the 60-day IL, and Cleveland will sign or select the contract of a catcher from within the organization.

That could be Ryan Lavarnway, who appeared in four games for Cleveland earlier this season and could provide some short-term depth until Perez can return.

Prior to the Rule 5 protection date in November, Cleveland will be looking to add catchers Bo Naylor (No. 6-ranked prospect) and Bryan Lavastida (No. 13) to the 40-man roster. Both are currently with the RubberDucks in Double-A.

Pitcher Brad Peacock was also dealt to the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.

Peacock was signed to a minor-league deal following the injuries to Shane Bieber, Aaron Civale and Zach Plesac, but he went on to post a 7.68 ERA in 34 innings with Triple-A Columbus and was never an option for a promotion to the majors.
