An industrial development announced recently in Huntersville has already found a tenant.
Safeguard Medical will occupy a 159,120-square-foot industrial building in The Park-Huntersville for its headquarters. The industrial building was announced earlier this month and is being developed by Raleigh-based Edgewater Ventures as the firm's first project in the Charlotte region.
Safeguard Medical said Monday that its operation would include 175 employees and could eventually grow to 250.
The industrial building sits on a 13-acre site in the Huntersville business park and is being targeted for an April 2022 delivery. Alidade Capital, which owns four other buildings at The Park, is partnering with Edgewater on the project.
Safeguard Medical is a medical products company that operates in the emergency medicine, defense and public safety sectors. It was founded last year in Chicago, but the Huntersville location will be its first official headquarters, a spokesperson told CBJ.
“This is a big win for Huntersville and the Lake Norman Region,” said Ryan McDaniels, executive director of Lake Norman Economic Development. “Safeguard Medical has been a project we started working on early in the pandemic. We are excited for the new jobs and investment that will be coming into the community and look forward to this new partnership with Safeguard Medical.”
The headquarters will include manufacturing, research and development, and administrative operations. A total investment amount was not disclosed.
Safeguard Medical oversees several brands, such as Water-Jel Technologies, Prometheus Medical, H&H Med Corp., Simbodies and Combat Medical. Combat Medical's operations are in Harrisburg, according to its website. Safeguard Medical has operations across the world.
The Park-Huntersville is on Reese Boulevard and includes hundreds of thousands of square feet of space, including for industrial, office and medical office uses.
Edgewater's project is part of the strong industrial momentum that has been building in Huntersville recently. McDaniels told the Charlotte Business Journal in May that Huntersville had more than 4 million square feet of speculative industrial space in planning, under review or under construction.
