Unusual Snake-like Creature Found on Texas Beaches

Next time you visit Galveston be on the lookout for these snake-like creatures on the beach. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recently reported the appearance of a shrimp eel along the Galveston shoreline.

The photo of the snake-like creature was posted on Facebook by a beach visitor, and draw the attention of many who found the animal strange, to say the least.

According to Texas A&M University at Galveston, shrimp eels have a slender snake-like body, broad snouts, two to three irregular rows of teeth, and range in color from a dark grey, black to yellow.

Shrimp eels are not dangerous to humans, they’re actually quite normal creatures who live in gulfs, bays, and in sandy or muddy waters. They usually stay buried under the sand and feed themselves from crabs and other types of shrimp.
