One teen, one Texas man killed in head-on car collision in Illinois

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two people died in a car collision around 6 a.m. Saturday morning on Illinois Route 1 near Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence County, Ill.

According to a police report, a 19-year-old male from Clay City, Ill., was driving a 1999 Gold Lincoln Town Car south on Illinois Route 1 when he crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a 1997 Maroon Chevrolet Truck that then caught on fire. Both the 19-year-old male and the driver of the truck, a 57-year-old man from Texas, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner, police said.

The roadway was closed during the investigation but lanes were reopened around 12:30 p.m., according to an Illinois State Police Facebook post. This investigation is still ongoing and identities of the deceased will be released once next of kin is notified. Follow mywabashvalley.com for updates.
