MICHIGAN CITY — Barker Hall presents a pop-up art installation by Edwin Shelton from 5 to 8 p.m. CDT Friday on the second floor of Trinity Episcopal Church, 614 Franklin St.

Titled “Constellations of the Unseen,” the show’s unusual sculptures are the culmination of more than a year’s worth of work for Shelton, who has taught art at Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City for five years.

These whimsical sculptures are assemblages of discarded objects that are combined with other materials, including fabric, conduit, PVC pipes, window screen, etc. The assortments of structures are covered with a skin of fabrics and upholstery thread, with fluorescent paints applied to these unconventional and abstract forms.

The installation also will include structures that support “chimes” and percussion pots and pans so that the viewers can create unusual sounds.

An information table for Hey Ugly (heyugly.org) and Mankind Project (mankindproject.org) also will be at the event. HeyUGLY strives to prevent bullying and suicide, and the Mankind Project provides trainings and support groups for personal growth for men.
