A new survey from Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University looks at what it calls the nation’s most "overvalued" housing market and it puts Boise at the top of the list of 100 cities surveyed.
But Jeff Wills, president of Boise Regional Realtors, finds the world "overvalued" to be subjective.
"I don't think we're in a position to say it's an overvalued market," he said via Zoom. "It's increased in median sales market prices for sure: there's growth, limited number of homes on the market and external factors such as the cost of lumber.."
Tracy Kasper is president-elect for the National Association of Realtors and will take office in 2024, the first Idahoan to hold the office.
Kasper thinks the word "overvalued" is misused.
"That word is not used appropriately," Kasper said. "Our assessments, our market values have all increased significantly, no one will deny that at all. People are coming from big metro areas, and bringing money from their values and bringing it to Idaho, which is making it hard for people in our market to compete. It has left first time home buyers in a difficult situation. Is there an affordable housing problem? Yes, and it's a problem across the nation."
