Matt Stutzman, who calls Fairfield home, earned the number 12 seed in the ranking round of the Men’s Individual Compound archery event Friday at the 2020 Paralympic games.
Stutzman shot 688 points with 45 10’s (inner gold circle) and 21 X’s (innermost circle).
This is Stutzman's third time participating in the Paralympic Games.
He'll compete on Saturday Aug. 28 in the round of 16 of the Men’s Individual Compound finals. That event is scheduled for 10:08 a.m. Tokyo Time, or 8 pm Friday in Iowa.
Stutzman is scheduled to shoot against Sundar Swami from India. The top seeds in the field are Zihao He of China, Iranian athlete Ramezan Biabani, and Rakesh Kumar of India.
"I have spent a lot of time in my mental preparation, I feel better at this event than I felt when I was in London (2012 Paralympic Games, when he earned a silver medal). I’ve been preparing a lot, and Covid has allowed me to spend an extra year training mentally. If I just do my process and keep my head focused on what the plan is then the result should be pretty amazing," Stutzman said on Monday.
