Busted star reveals why he's turned down Strictly Come Dancing

Busted star Matt Willis has revealed why he's turned down the opportunity to appear on Strictly Come Dancing on more than one occasion.

The musician may be no stranger to a reality series, having taken part in Celebrity Masterchef and winning the sixth series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2006. But the thought of competing in front of the dance show's huge audience is enough to put him off the idea of ever donning sequins and tripping the light fantastic.

"The idea of Strictly terrifies me," he told OK! recently. "I've been asked a few times and always said no.

"Can you imagine standing there and suddenly you hear 'Tonight, dancing the cha-cha-cha, it's Matt Willis'? You know, something like 12 million people are watching – no thanks. There's not a chance that I'd be able to cope with that kind of pressure."

Earlier this month, Strictly confirmed its 2021 line-up, which includes names such as Loose Women panellist Judi Love, Dragon's Den investor Sara Davies, former EastEnders actor Nina Wadia, McFly's Tom Fletcher and Sense and Sensibility's Greg Wise.

As for Willis, he'll be seen performing in Waitress from September 4 as Dr Pomatter, as the production tours the UK and Ireland, and hopefully start making new music with his Busted bandmates James Bourne and Charlie Simpson soon, too.

"I don't think we'll ever stop working together and we're talking about things now," he teased. "It will hopefully be something I do for the rest of my life. I can't believe we're still going strong – it's the gift that keeps on giving."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One. It's due to return later in 2021.
