Supergirl’s series finale will see another fan favorite return.
Melissa Benoist, who plays the titular hero, has confirmed that Mehcad Brooks will reprise his role as James Olsen for the CW series’ final episode. David Harewood, who plays J’onn J’onzz, previously confirmed that Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Winn (Jeremy Jordan), aka Toyman, will be back for the finale as well.
“It would not have felt right if they hadn’t come back,” Benoist told Entertainment Weekly. “I loved seeing my friends. I loved seeing Mehcad Brooks. I loved seeing Jeremy. I loved having Chris back, obviously. I don’t think it would’ve been a right goodbye if the people who came back hadn’t come back, so I’m very grateful that they did. It’s always difficult to get that many people back in the same place, especially in the pandemic, so I’m really glad it worked out that way.”
Chyler Leigh also opened up about familiar faces dropping by this season, telling TVLine that fans can expect “some wonderful returns.”
Olsen departed in Season 5 to run his hometown newspaper and expose the local corruption. Before leaving, he handed his Guardian shield to his sister Kelly, who will debut as the vigilante in Episode 12 (titled “Blind Spots”).
Meanwhile, Mon-El last appeared in Season 5’s “It’s a Super Life,” which marked the show’s 100th episode and saw Supergirl transported to an alternate reality in which the Daxamite prince never left Earth. Winn also appeared in the episode, assisting the Superfriends with tracking down Lena Luthor. Winn exited as a series regular at the end of Season 3, deciding to join the Legion of Super-Heroes in the future alongside founder and leader Mon-El, who also left the series that season.
Good news he will come back for the series finale episode.
It’s good Jimmy comes back… I wish Cat Grant and Alura would also guest.
Season one was the best, love the super family!
Wish Cat would be there, too, but that’s probably too large of a get. But I’m glad Winn and James will be there! I’ll probably watch this one.
The least they could have done was bring Calista Flockhart back via zoom or something. I know the show has moved on since season one but it still doesn’t feel right without her.
I thought the same… why not use zoom.
Maybe they will…
Is it too much to ask to have Calista back even if it’s over zoom. I’d love to see Jenna Dewan pop back up either here or on supermen and Lois again as Lucy Lane
Definite yes on Jenna Dewan returning as Lucy, but I would rather see the character turn up on S&L to interact with her sis and drive dear old dad bonkers. Actually would like to see her also reprise her role as a pharm rep on The Resident.
I’d imagine Superman & Lois is going to do a post-Crisis recast on Lucy just like they did with Sam, because they’ll inevitably want her for a larger role on that show and Jenna Dewan isn’t going to come to Canada often enough for that. I think there’s a good chance we see Cat one more time as Calista has been game to make appearances every so often, even if they’re only minor. If they asked her for basically a mere cameo, I think she wouldn’t be insulted and she’d do it.
So excited for all the returns (especially Chris Wood! Loved him!). I was never a James fan but I have always felt the end wouldn’t be right without him.
I don’t remember them even -mentioning- him after the crisis event, which always bothered me. Glad he’ll be back.
I am so sad to see SuperGirl come to end with this being the last season. Happy to hear most of the originals are coming back. I would have also loved to see: the original Alura, Cat Grant, Eliza, The ending of this season sounds like it will be fantastic. I will so miss seeing Melissa Benoist and the rest of the cast. I loved this show.
