City of Jackson discovers 'potential misappropriation of funds by an employee,' mayor says

Investigation underway involving former COJ employee

recently. Thank you. Recently the administration discovered the potential misappropriation of funds by an employee who is no longer with the city of Jackson. At the time of this discovery, we immediately contacted the District Attorney's office. We have been, I made contact with the representative of the state auditor's office to make them aware at this time. This is still a full scale investigation which is under way. Uh and therefore we cannot share any additional details regarding this matter. Uh But we wanted to provide an update or or provide uh this press conference or this notice in the interest of of public trust and accountability. And so with that, I will step aside and give the district attorney and opportunity to share a few words. Good afternoon. I just like to echo the mayor sentiments and apply this administration for its efforts and transparency. The mayor of Senior leadership team did contact our offense immediately upon learning a potential malfeasance. We subsequently have launched an investigation in conjunction, uh but not all of the others office. Also federal partners and some of uh, Jackson public Police Department staff as well. That investigation is ongoing. Uh We're not providing information about it at this time. Uh but we certainly will continue to follow the leads. Will they take us and hold all those accountable? Who would uh take advantage of public trust? Thanks
