Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman Trailer Shows a Monster in the Making

Voltage Pictures has released the official trailer for Daniel Farrands’ upcoming thriller titled Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman, centering around the early days of the titular infamous serial killer. Starring Peyton List and Tobin Bell, the film will have its theatrical release for one night only on September 20 in over 750 theaters nationwide. This will then be followed by a U.S. VOD release on October 8.

The American Boogeywoman trailer, which you can check out in the player below, provides us our first look at List’s portrayal of Aileen Wuornos, who was famously played by Oscar winner Charlize Theron in the 2003 Patty Jenkins-directed biopic Monster. It highlights how Wuornos will infiltrate a wealthy family in Florida by seducing its patriarch into marriage.

Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman is written and directed by Daniel Farrands. It is led by Cobra Kai star Peyton List, Tobin Bell (Saw films), and Lydia Hearst (The Haunting of Sharon Tate).

“Based on Aileen Wuornos’s early life, America’s most notorious female serial killer, back in 1976, a young Aileen arrives in Florida searching for a new life that will help her escape her tragic past,” reads the synopsis. “There, she marries a wealthy Yacht Club president and has the chance to start again as part of Florida’s high society. But tormented by inner demons she surrenders to her murderous impulses and wreaks havoc in the peaceful seaside community of Deland, Florida.”

Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman will also star Nick Vallelonga (Green Book), Swen Temmel (In Time), Meadow Williams (Boss Level), and Andrew Biernat (Shadow’s Edge). It is produced by Temmel, Williams, Lucas Jarach, Luke Daniels, and Daniel Davila.
