Dan and Eugene Levy Cancel ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Farewell Tour. Here’s Why

The much awaited 'Schitt's Creek' Farewell Tour celebrating the success of the sitcom has been cancelled, Dan and Eugene Levy tweeted. They said that the tour was cancelled due to rising COVID-19 cases and inconsistencies in restrictions and rules in different cities.

Dan and Eugene Levy, the father-son creator duo of the comedy show Schitt’s Creek announced through a Twitter post on Friday that the ‘Schitt’s Creek: Farewell Tour’ had been canceled. After the show swept up audiences last year with its final season, leaving them wanting more, the co-creators announced the tour in March 2020. After being postponed once, the tour has now been canceled, Deadline reported.

A surge in COVID-19 cases is to be blamed for this atrocity

Much to the disappointment of its many fans, the Dan and Eugene Levy announced the cancellation of the tour and attributed it to the surge in coronavirus cases.

The duo said that the tour was postponed because they hoped to get on the road as soon as the situation allowed for it. But despite waiting, they weren’t able to plan a tour that aligned with different pandemic restrictions and laws in North America.

“Despite our best efforts to reschedule while keeping your health and safety at the forefront, we’ve found that state and local mandates vary too widely to do so in the near future,” the post said. “So we have made the difficult decision to cancel all tour dates that were scheduled pre-pandemic.”

The creators of the popular comedy added that the tickets would be “refunded immediately upon cancellation.”

“We’re so sorry to be missing you, and we will continue to try to find a way to see you in the future,” they said at the end of the post, signed, “Best Wishes and Warmest Regards.”

What was the Farewell Tour about?

Originally scheduled for March 2020, the tour had been postponed to this year. Covering cities in the U.S. like LA, Phoenix, Boston, Chicago, the tour was a celebration of the unprecedented success of the show.

The Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek, which began in 2015 and went on for six seasons, had a slow start with its appearance on CBC Television in Canada and Pop TV in the U.S. However, its appearance on Netflix after the third season saw a massive shift in its viewership. Overnight, the show became a huge success.

A sitcom about a formerly rich, Rose family and its members, who lose all their money and are forced to live in a motel in a small town called Schitt’s Creek. Starting anew, the four-membered family of David Rose, played by Eugene Levy; Moira Rose, played by Catherine O’Hara; David Rose, played by Dan Levy; and Alexis Rose, played by Annie Murphy, find themselves in a town David Rose once purchased as a joke. In Schitt’s Creek, they begin another journey trying to salvage their reputation, find ways to make money, and build their lives again, from scratch.

Over a period of six years, the show gained recognition for its acting and portrayal of LGBTQ people. The sixth and final season of the show was nominated for 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the only comedy series to achieve this feat. It won four main comedy acting awards and the Best Comedy Series award as well.
