After a dog was stolen from a Detroit yard four years ago, he was finally reunited with his owner.

According to WDIV 4, police were called to help a homeless man who was having a medical episode. When Officer Victoria Butcher arrived at the scene, she noticed that the man had a dog in his car. "I saw he had a dog in the car and it just broke my heart," Officer Butcher said.

Bill Heatley with Streethearts Dog Rescue was called to help calm the dog down and check if he had a microchip.

Luckily, the Shepard mix did have a microchip that linked him back to Desirae Cornell.

Cornell had rescued her dog, Jack, from a home in Detroit. Jack had been chained up at the home every day, but she visited him often. "I'd grab a Lunchable and go sit outside with the dog and share the Lunchable," she said. The owners planned to euthanize Jack until Cornell offered to adopt him. A few months later, someone had stolen Jack from her fenced-in yard and she thought he'd be gone forever.

Now four years later, the two have been reunited. "I'm so happy right now," Carnell told WDIV 4. "I never thought I'd ever see him again."
