VIDEO: Chris Marve speaks on development of linebacker group

“I think the guys are playing really fast. They’re playing with great confidence.”

Florida State football took the practice fields for the sixth straight day this morning. After the conclusion of practice, linebackers coach Chris Marve spoke with the media to discuss the development of the group and the emergence of some underclassmen. On his group’s performance through two weeks of camp, Marve said, “I think the guys are playing really fast. They’re playing with great confidence. They’re putting in a lot of work away from the facility.”

Kalen Deloach has been a consistent performer this fall. Marve has been impressed with his play and is excited to see what he can do moving forward. “He’s a young man who’s grown up. He’s matured in a lot of ways, not just as a football player, but as a young man away from the field. He’s been impressive to watch. You can see him flying around, he’s playing with great confidence, he’s communicating, and he’s respected by his teammates.”

Another young linebacker flying around the field this fall has been DJ Lundy. Marve attributed his growth on the field to his ability to focus on one position, after spending high school as a multi-sport athlete and playing both sides of the ball. Marve said, “It’s good to watch his growth... He’s a young man who loves to work. He doesn’t back down from anything. I’ve been happy with him. He’s taken some significant strides.”
