It’s not every day that you get to play ball with a Hall of Famer, but today some lucky fans in Williamsport did.
“It’s just the thrill of playing a game, to improve your stats and to reach new goals,” said baseball fan, Micah Saiers. He says that thrill was amplified by playing with MLB Hall of Famer Tim Raines.
“It’s the week of little league and so we always like to have a pickup game with the neighborhood children here on the front lawn of UPMC Williamsport. Tim Raines is our major league baseball player who is down here and he’s having a fabulous game with the local children. The kids came over from the YMCA today to play a little baseball,” said Patti Jackson, VP of Strategy and Business Development, UPMC.
“For me just to come out and be a part of this hopefully I can change some minds and put something in their minds that hey I can do what he used to do," said Tim Raines, MLB Hall of Famer.
The former New York Yankee has traveled all over the world, but this is his first trip to Williamsport. “I’ve never been here before and I’m so excited because I didn’t get a chance to come here when I was a kid,” said Raines.
For the 4th Annual Wiffle Ball Game, fans had to take extra precautions by masking up, but many said they were happy to be able to attend, unlike the Little League World Series.
“t’s better than nothing. I’m glad I’m here, it gets me outside getting fresh air,” said Saiers.
“It’s one thing that we were able to keep pretty much the way it always has been and so it’s something that they can do that they’re used to,” said Jackson.
After the full-filled day the kids get to take home a goodie bag with a signed baseball.
